The Signal & Telecommunications Department of the Severn Valley Railway
is an entirely volunteer run department including the post of
Chief S&T Engineer. The department is resonsible for the safe operation
of the most comprehensive signalling system on any private railway
(excluding Railtrack and L.T.) comprising some fifty track circuits and
220 levers of which about 200 are in use. The activities of the Department
are written up in the
Severn Valley News magazine and recent
articles are available below. A description of the signalling at each location may
also be viewed. The
Telecomms. Section and the Signals Section are now operated as seperate sections
which has come about as cable circuits have replaced pole routes making the two sections
less dependent on each other. This web site therefore focuses on the Signalling Section.
